At the getaway to Sierra Gorda, rising up is the peak of San Bernal (La Pena de Bernal), a gigantic 350 meters high rock, the third highest in the world. Pena de Bernal is located is San Sebastian Bernal, a small town in the Mexican state of Queretaro. This rock is said to bring the inhabitants on the town a long life, the average life span of Bernal residents is said to be a staggering 94.7 years.
This enormous rock constitutes the setting element between the indigenous communities of the region and the encounter point with the meztizo society that erected the village of Bernal placed on the valleys and more fertile plazas towards the south and the Occident of this axial point of the territory. The rock of Bernal is a intrusive ingenious formation, it was exposed at a time, by way of a great monolith, by virtue of long processes of natural elements and erosion, which underlies in tuneless form to a sequence riolitic volcanic of tertiary age. For its height, it is considered the third higher monolith of the world, reason for which is not so difficult to understand its place like significant landmark in the regional landscape.
The characteristics of this rock, unique in the country, grant it a considerable attractiveness, no only for the villagers, but also for the growing number of visitors that arrive to the place. Those of a more adventurous nature will find magnificent natural landscapes for rappelling, mountain climbing, scaling or extreme sports, for that adrenaline rush and a unique experience to boot, climb the monolith Pena de Bernal and admire the beautiful view of the city of Queretaro.

I find your text stirring…
would like hotel rate information for sometime in February.
also whether water is warm enough to swim.
I just visited there today. I drove in from Queretaro, Mexico. There is a new subdivision that is being developed that will be pretty high end (houses around 300k USD) The surrounding terrain is fairly desert but with lots of brush and small trees. In the Summer time it is very green, but in the winter time is a little like Vegas….maybe a little greener. The town of San Bernal is absolutely beautiful, clean and safe; an extremely popular weekend getaway for those from Mexico City and Queretaro. I plan to buy some land in the Subdivision (50k USD for a lot) and build a weekend house to rent out to those visitors; and of course, I plan to return to climb the famous peak.
