The ancient settlement of Coba is connected to the ancient city of Tulum by road, from which it is at a distance of approximately 40 km. It is also close to the Caribbean sea.

This important ancient Mayan city is located around two lagoons, not that far from the Chichen Itza, that other well-known center of Maya power and glory. At its heyday, an estimated 50000 people called Coba home, but today only the well-made pavements, and the impressive structures of the town speak of its silent glory.

The Maya nostalgia that will overtake you in this town may at times be overhwhelming. You will certainly be tempted to think and dream about the futility of human endeavors, the emptiness of existence, and the endless cycles of history among these ruins. But if you are wise enough to make the most of your trip here, you will not find a small amount of joy and excitement either.
