Michoacan is a state of many interesting talents, hidden or otherwise. In the town of Cocucho lives an 84-year old lady who started the art of needlework craft in a place known for its elegant clay pots, pristine beaches, ice cream parlors and folk arts. For more than 50 years, Hermelinda Reyes Ascensio toiled with decorating plain guanengo (plain cotton blouse), blanket, table clothes, even handkerchief and table napkins with delicate and colorful floral patterns.  One giangengo takes about 3-4 months to finish and is being sold for only $30-$40.  Her daughter has since took over the business and the craft and has also started her daughter to take part in the tradition.

That would make sure the art of beautiful needlework is kept alive in Michoacan.
