THE HEROIC CITY OF CUAUTLA, MORELOS July 23
The Heroic City of Cuautla, second in importance in the state of Morelos, it is located toward the southeast of Cuernavaca in the lowlands of the state of Morelos, in which sugarcane is one of the principal crops, and is thus in a region where Haciendas were established.
In 1829 the City was decreed “The Heroic City of Morelos” by the congress of the state of mexico, its name means ” where eagles abound”. Cuautla is an example of the present and the past, here you will see history unfold throughout its streets, buildings and monuments.
Some of the Monuments and attractions that you will find in Cuautla are: The Church and Ex-Convent of San Diego. This convent was originally built by the Dominicans in the 16Th, but later came under the siege of the Franciscans who in 1640 erected a temple in honor of the Saint Joseph and annexed the small convent. It is now used as a museum and a series of other cultural establishments.
The Railroad Station: An old station that houses the steam machine 279. The only narrow track railway was important in the development of the region of Cuautla Morelos, during the Revolution. Today it is the only one in the country that offers a service by rail from Cuautla to the town of Yecapixtla.
Municipal Palace and Murals: The murals in the impressive Municipal Palace were painted in 1969 and depict the events of the 1812 Siege of Cuautla as well as the struggle of the mexican people against the Spanish repression and National heroes including Jose Ma. Morelos, Galeana, Matamoros and the Insurgent Army.
I have been living in Cuautla for a year and I really like the city because it is small, and because you can find all that you need. However, the most impressive thing about Cuautla is the fact that you can still see united families, and I say this because every weekend in the Zocalo you can find entire families sitting around the park eating pop corn, ice cream, sodas, french fries and other snacks. You will also find people of different ages dancing Danzon which is a famous dance here in Mexico from the 50¡s or 60’s and it is especially danced by old people..

My husband just went home to Cuautla Morelos and I will be coming to visit in January. Is cuautla and cuauhtemoc the same city?

Cuautla and Cuauhtemoc are not the same city. Cuauhtemoc is a street that goes through Cuernavaca and also a site in the city with some small ruins.

I was just in Cuautla. I spent last X-mass there. I had the priviledge of being the guest of the Alvarez family who are well known musicians in that town. I love it. Seems a perfect place to retire…
