The roaring jaguar of Mexico has been making ever greater strides toward a better competitive environment, transparency and accountability in givernmnet affairs. Since the crises of the 90s, Mexico has been successful at refashioning itself into a center of regional economic activity by improving economic infrastructure, and implementing economic reforms that have been welcomed by the international community of finance as opening the country’s path prosperity and success.
Mexico is the 11th largest economy in the world on a purchasing power partity basis, and on the same basis it’s the richest in Latin America. It is the most important auto manufacturer in the North America, and it is also a major oil exporter, with oil revenues constituting the largest share of the external income pie.
Problems of course remain, but the Mexican people and the successive administrations seem determined to overcome them. The nation has great natural resources and human talent. It is only a matter of time before those translate to material wealth.
