Hidalgo Del Parral

02

Parral is a quiet little town with good museums and unique churches.  Some of the cab drivers here would completely stop for a crossing pedestrian.  What made Parral so famous is this is where Pancho Villa was murdered on July 20, 1923 and he was also buried here.  But after he was buried, unknown raiders attacked his tomb and beheaded him.  His body was moved to mexico City in 1976.

Parral was founded in 1631 as a mining settlement.  It is commonly called Parral but the tag Hidalgo was later added.  You could still see the places where people used to mine the silver, quartz, copper, lead, and other materials from the La Prieta mine.
