Hermosillo  is the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora.

Before it was officially founded in 1741, Hermosillo had been inhabited by Europeans since 1700, who had driven the Native American inhabitants away from their previous homes by the force of arms.

The small village was renamed Villa de Pitic in 1783, and finally Hermosillo in 1828, in honor of the Mexican independence hero general Gonzalez de Hermosillo.

Ford Motor Company has a manufacturing plant near Hermosillo, along with many other international firms. Tourists favor the area for its beautiful colonial buildings, spectacular landscape and vibrant economy.  Photos via Wikimedia Commons, and virtualtourist.com
