The Ecological Center of Sonora offers a wonderful collection of flora and fauna from the four ecosystems found in the state of Sonora. The park includes exhibits representing the natural environments of mountains, deserts, grasslands and the Sea of Cortez.

The 2400 acre center holds over 300 species of plants and 200 different animals. While the center focuses mostly on the four Sonoran eco-systems, there are animals from all around the world for visitors to enjoy. The end of the semi-rugged trail relieves visitors with a cool and refreshing greenhouse which offers shade and a moist tropical environment highlighting tropical species of plant life.

The area can get quite hot, especially in the middle part of the day. Visitors should make sure to bring plenty of water or other re-hydrating drinks. It is also important to wear plenty of sunscreen and dress accordingly with coverage for the head and loos fitting clothes that allow the body to cool itself.

The admission price is $10 and the center is open Wednesday through Sunday. The hours are seasonal with shorter days in the winter from November 1st through March 31st. The center is open from 8:00 to 5:00 during these months with extended closing of 7:00 during the months of April 1st through October 31st.

The center is a wonderful way to learn about Sonora’s various eco-systems, as well as, the amazing animals from around the world. It shows the small environment movement that has started in Mexico and is spreading both through education and through ecologically-minded tourism. A visit is perfect for family travel and the price of admission makes it an affordable indulgence.
