Durango
Durango is the capital city of the similarly named mexican state which lies to the south of Chihuahua. The town has a long history, having been established in 1563 as the capital of Nueva Vizcaya in New Hispania the borders of which enclosed the modern Mexican states of Chihuahua, and Durango.
The town is populous, with about 500000 people calling it their home, and its territory is also quite large, at approximately 10000 square kilometers.
The greatest asset of Durango, and the greatest attraction it offers to tourists, is the large colonial heritage of churches and other municipal buildings reflecting the long history of the town as an important political center. Indeed, the pictures on this page speak better than the words that we may use.
