Acapulco richly deserves its title as “paradise of the Americas”. Located 300 km southeast of Mexico City, on a deep semi-circular bay, it is the largest city and a major sea port in the state of Guerrero. But the fame of Acapulco is not the result of commercial activity or its population density. It’s the natural splendor of this town that has earned it its grandiloquent nickname.
Access to Acapulco from inland is through the mountains by a 1.2 mile tunnel. Also, because of the tropical, climate, a passage through the mountains has been contructed to allow the sea breeze to reach the city throughout the year.
The popularity of Acapulco continues to grow, with falling air fares through the decades leading more and more people to visit the town every year. The Mexicans are friendly and hospitable people in general, and they are even more so in this little corner of paradise. Acapulco is a featured destination for many Pacific cruise packages, and in recent years it’s been gaining popularity as a major spring break destination.
