One of the most influential families in terms of restaurant business in Cancun is the founder of stylish La Habichuela and Labna which is the Pezzotti. Labna’s cuisine is taken cared of chef Carlos Hannon that offers new delightful experience with the Yucatecan cuisine. Its outstanding menu consists of papadzules or hard-boiled eggs wrapped in thick corn tortillas and topped with pumpkin sauce and salbutes or small fried tortillas topped with shredded turkey or egg and marinated red onion as well as the cochinita pibil or tender pork chunks marinated in achiote and sour orange and lobster flambéed with the honey-anise liqueur called Xtabentun.

Owned by former Ritz-Carlton chef, John Gray shows another masterpiece in Cancun named as John Gray’s Downtown. Although not that famous and may even lead you to Grill 14 when you ask your hotel concierge, this place has sister restaurants in Puerto Morelos and Playa Del Carmen. Always full of pretty people in its industrial chic rooms, the food must be carefully picked from the menu. Except Sundays, try their savory onion soup, steak-frites and daily specials on the country French–mexican menu.

Have you been really hungry in the middle of the night but can’t find the best place to satisfy your need? If you are in Playa Del Carmen then worry no more because the Senor Tacombi is open 24/7. This place is full of colors that can be seen in its sawed-top VW bus, outdoor stand, kitchen and reupholstered chairs and dinner tables. Except Mondays, hang-out on Calle Pescadores at Marinos in San José del Cabo until midnight. After visiting San Joe’s art district try some great-tasting food in Taqueria el Ahorcado like tacos, quesadillas and enchiladas stuffed with carnitas or marinated pork, flor de calabaza or squash blossoms, rajas or poblano chilies and soupy charros-style beans with hot corn tortillas. The only disadvantage is that it lacks liquor license but it won’t hinder you to have real fun because you can bring your own cerveza.
