A secret delight: the Mexican Wine

Unknown to many, Mexico has the oldest tradition of wine making in the Americas. The first vineries and wine production were in the northern state of Coahuila, where the settlers encountered good water sources and an abundance of native vines.

Mexican wine is mostly produced and consumed in Mexico, especially in the northern states. The climate and soil of the central and southern states is not very suitable to vine cultivation.

Major producing regions are Valle (valley) de Guadalupe, Baja California, Caborca, Valle de Tequisquiapan in Queretaro, de Zacatecas in Zacatecas, and de Parras in Coahuila. These regions produce all sorts of excellent Chardonnay, Semillion, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Lenoir.

Of the above Valle de Guadalupe is the most successful and well-known wine producing region of Mexico. Apart from the beauty of its scenery, connoisseurs of good wine should not miss a chance to visit this fertile valley, if only for the good taste its cuisine will leave on the palate.
