VACATIONING IN BOCA PAILA RIVIERA MAYA - QUINTANA ROO

On the southern end of the Riviera Maya, there is a place from another era. What makes this place so especial is that fact that the crowds have not reached these virtually deserted beaches. If you enjoy being away from the crowds, this is the perfect place for you. Boca Paila is located on a small peninsula inside the Sian Kaan biosphere reserve, which is a large protected area of 528,147 hectares and more than 100 Kms. of the great Mayan reef. It is located in the center of the state of Quintan Roo. Restrictions and regulations have protected this area from human intervention and therefore the environment is virtually untouched, allowing all visitors to have a very tangible touch with nature.

The peninsula is the only part open to a very limited tourist development. Here you will also find both private houses and hotels, mainly fishing lodges. The only access is trough a well kept dirt road.  In this place electricity is produced trough generators and solar panels, and fresh water comes from wells. The eastern coast of the peninsula looks out on the Caribbean sea whereas the east coast borders on a series of intricate mangroves and Mayan canals.

In this isolated place, you will be able to find Rustic but comfortable fishing and scuba diving lodges. This place also has a well deserved reputation for excellent bone fishing and diving on virgin reef. At the same time, because this coast is one of the most threatened by development, there are also eco-tourism programs that allow visitors to help save the threatened sea turtle population.
