The southern region of Mexico’s west coast houses the state of Guerrero. This popular tourist destination is highly prized to Mexican tourism as it holds the Triángulo del Sol (Triangle of Sun). Made up of Acupulco, Taxco and Ixtapa, these three cities have become prime destinations for visitors to Mexico.

The first point, Taxco, holds the Church of Santa Prisca which can be see from any point in town marked by its beautiful polychrome tiles and pink walls. The silverware of Taxco is highly coveted and vintage items are a prized commodity. Today, many artisans enjoy using Taxco silver in one-of-a-kind creations sold throughout the world. Taxco is located on a mountainside and it’s red tiled homes are a popular focal point of the quaint town.

The second point of the Triangle of Sun is the town of Acapulco. Nauhatl for “place of big reeds”, this is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Mexico. The gorgeous sunny winter weather make it a hot spot for winter travelers looking for water sports and beach fun. A must see are the divers of La Quebrada. This professional diving group has entertained watchers since 1934 and their diving cliff is the spot for the World Cliff Diving Championship.

Ixtapa is another beach side tourist haven making up the triangle and was created by the government. Sinking tourism in the 1970′s forced the government to come up with new tourist destinations. Ixtapa is one of those with Cancun being another. Located in a former coconut grove, Ixtapa offers the standard water-based activities. Isla Ixtapa is an island right off its coast and a popular visit for tourists, especially those looking for prime snorkeling and scuba diving. The island is home to a plethora of exotic fish, birds and even local deer who have become quite use to visitors.
