When visiting the colonial city of Guanajuato, Mexico, one of my favorite places to stay is Casa Estrella de la Valenciana. This beautiful inn is nestled in the hillside of the Central Mexican Highlands.
From the inn, you can enjoy spectacular view of the colonial city. This establishment offers luxury amenities, full breakfast daily and lots of activities in the area.
Though it is more expensive than some of the other hotels in Guanajuato (rates $185 to $265 a night), it’s defintiely worth it. When staying at the inn, you can order extra indulgences, such as champagne, wine or flowers in the room upon your arrival, fruit, cheese and cracker platters, in-room massages, and much more. Nearby Casa Estrella de la Valenciana, you can explore the historical sites and architecture of the city. From La Valancian Church to Guanajuato’s silver mines to the handful of museums in the area, you will enjoy it all.

Cuernavaca Morelos, “The city of the eternal spring”. Cuernavaca is well know because the kind of weather that the city has, besides that Cuernavaca is a charming colonial city. A lot of Cuernavaca’s architecture, gardens and attractions are hidden behind tall walls, inside houses and estates which host some marvelous scenes of perfectly preserved colonial life. Many of these houses are either hotels, spas, restaurants, or museums open to the public.
When we are in a city like Cuernavaca, whit a historical richness and some important tourist attractions, we don’t have the time to really know the city, for that reason in cuernavaca’s main zocalo you can find the Tourist Train, it offers you a tour around the city. The key attractions include The Cortez Palace, The Cathedral and The Jardin Borda.
The Cathedral, Cathedral the la Asuncion de Maria, one of the oldest church in Mexico, started in 1529 and completed in 1552. The city Zocalo (main plaza) host some magnificent architecture including The Plaza de Armas, Palacio de Gobierno and Palacio de Cortez now also know as Museum Cuauhnahuac.
Jardin Borda initially was a residence of the Taxco silver Baron, Jose de la Borda. The Emperor Maximilian made the location famous as his summer home in 1886.Now the Jardin Borda housing a Museum and a Restaurant, on a huge walled block in Cuernavaca, it is a must see.
There is a large community of American expatriates here , many come to enjoy the great climate and facilities. Cuernavaca can be a day trip from Mexico city, or part of colonial city tour, you can also stay here for a week, making it a base from which you can explore and discover Mexico’s southern region. So Cuernavaca it’s a good place to visit for a day, it’s a great place to stay and relax for longer.

The Heroic City of Cuautla, second in importance in the state of Morelos, it is located toward the southeast of Cuernavaca in the lowlands of the state of Morelos, in which sugarcane is one of the principal crops, and is thus in a region where Haciendas were established.
In 1829 the City was decreed “The Heroic City of Morelos” by the congress of the state of Mexico, its name means ” where eagles abound”. Cuautla is an example of the present and the past, here you will see history unfold throughout its streets, buildings and monuments.
Some of the Monuments and attractions that you will find in Cuautla are: The Church and Ex-Convent of San Diego. This convent was originally built by the Dominicans in the 16Th, but later came under the siege of the Franciscans who in 1640 erected a temple in honor of the Saint Joseph and annexed the small convent. It is now used as a museum and a series of other cultural establishments.
The Railroad Station: An old station that houses the steam machine 279. The only narrow track railway was important in the development of the region of Cuautla Morelos, during the Revolution. Today it is the only one in the country that offers a service by rail from Cuautla to the town of Yecapixtla.
Municipal Palace and Murals: The murals in the impressive Municipal Palace were painted in 1969 and depict the events of the 1812 Siege of Cuautla as well as the struggle of the Mexican people against the Spanish repression and National heroes including Jose Ma. Morelos, Galeana, Matamoros and the Insurgent Army.
I have been living in Cuautla for a year and I really like the city because it is small, and because you can find all that you need. However, the most impressive thing about Cuautla is the fact that you can still see united families, and I say this because every weekend in the Zocalo you can find entire families sitting around the park eating pop corn, ice cream, sodas, french fries and other snacks. You will also find people of different ages dancing Danzon which is a famous dance here in Mexico from the 50¡s or 60’s and it is especially danced by old people..

A hour and a half of Mexico City, you can see one of the most beautiful geological phenomena in nature, these are the Prismas Basalticos (Basaltic Prisms), located in the town of Santa Maria Regla in the state of Hidalgo.
The Prism Basalt are geometric basalt columns that decorate the walls of the gully impressive of Santa Maria Regla. Each of these pillars has the peculiarity of being an hexagonal prism, some of them 150 feet tall and more than 4 feet wide. The origin of these formation with an approximate height of 30 meters, goes back to accelerated cooling lava during a spill millions of years ago, which was poured at the bottom of the gully.
In addition to the spectacle of Basalt Prism, the area has been equipped with a good tourism infrastructure, so you’ll have the facilities necessary to spend a very pleasant visit, such as restaurants, bars, an area for camping, boat rides, horseback riding and handicraft shops.
In the shopping area, you will find a stairway leading down to the bottom of the canyon, where you can walk between the prisms. All year round, there are some waterfalls fed by the artificial lake. During the rainy season, a great portion of the wall is covered by the falling water, making an incredible curtain with the water hitting the stones at different heights. It’s just Beautiful.
The waterfalls are a place removed from a story which breathes a sense hard to described.

El Nevado de Toluca is a large volcano in central Mexico, located about 80 Kms. west of Mexico City, near the city of Toluca. It is generally cited as the 4th highest of Mexico’s peak. This volcano is 4,680 mts. above sea level. This volcano is unique in Mexico in the sense that you can enter into the crater by car.
Something characteristic that distinguishes this volcano from the others in Mexico, is the fact that in its crater, it has the sun and moon lagoons, 2 beautiful turquoise bodies of water in which there has been some archaeological discoveries of sacred pre-Hispanic ceremonies. In this two lagoons, you can practice scuba diving and fishing.
Before you get to the volcano, you will find a beautiful national park called the same as the volcano, The Nevado de Toluca National Park. This park has forest land, especially of pines and obeto trees. The prevalent animals that you can find in this park are camp rats, teporingos, tlacuaches, lizards, snakes, and eagles.
On the lower part of this mountain, there are also picnic tables and barbecue grills so many people come to this place not only to hike the peak but also to camp or just have a family picnic.
when it comes to sports, let me tell you that countless of sport activities can be practiced here like camping, trekking, mountain biking, and mountain climbing among others. For its beautiful and challenging landscape, this park has been one of the favorite places for high performance athletes that visit this place to train before Olympic and national competitions.
