This magnificent island is just 26 miles or 24 kilometers long and it’s located in the mayan mexico riviera to the northwest of Cancun. You can get to the Island either by ferry which you would need to take from a town called Chiquila or by plane flying from Cancun or Playa del Carmen. I especially like to go by ferry because that way I feel closer to nature, and from time to time you might be able to see dolphins or whales on the way.
This incredible Island is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon Which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds and creatures. This island is also famous for its exciting tours that offers, such as whale shark watching and swimming tours, fishing tours, snorkeling tours, bird watching tours, and dolphin watching and swimming tours. The most incredible attraction in the island is the whale shark watching and swimming tour. This spectacular show is available only in this Island of the Mexican Caribbean from June to September because that’s when whale sharks swim near the Island to spend the summer season.
Holbox Island is considered a virgin tourist destination because very few outsiders visit the Island. This does not mean that if you visit it you won’t find a place to eat or sleep. The Island has several comfortable and reasonable hotels as well as condo vacation rentals. As far as places to eat, let me tell you that you don’t have to worry about that either. There are also some restaurants where you can eat anything from a slice of pizza to the catch of the day. Remember that this Island is a fishing village so don’t forget to try the delicious sea food the locals prepare with the catch of the day.
Anyway, if you happen to visit Cancun and are tired of being around too many tourists, remember that you can get away from it all by visiting this amazing Island. I strongly recommend that you come to this Island especially if you love birds, dolphins and whales.

The town and beach resort of Puerto Morelos is another amazing place in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. This place is located about 25 minutes south of Cancun in between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. This place is visited all year long because of its beauty. It has a wide variety of guest houses, bed and breakfast facilities, condominiums, and hotels that range from moderate to very luxurious ones, and of course, all inclusive resorts.
There are different things you can do here. Among them are diving, snorkeling, and fishing. There are also different tours available to do any of these three things at a very reasonable price. Diving and snorkeling in this place is really a wonderful experience because of the different sealife you can find in the reef. Fishing trips can also be arranged with even a group of four people. This trips may include as much as six hours of fishing, full equipment, a professional guide and crew, bait, and refreshesments.
As far as accomodations, let me tell you that many people enjoy staying with friends and family in a nice and comfortable condo. Staying in a condo is not only comfortable but also cheap. Prices range from $50 to $100 dollars a night and if you stay for a week or longer prices go down. There are also other services such as airport transfers that can cost you about $55 dollars for up to 8 persons from The airport to Puerto Morelos. These airport transfers are very safe and comfortable.
I also want to tell you about eating in Puerto Morelos. There is a wonderful variety of places to eat in this place. Here you will find a range from cheap local places to world-class cuisine. Since this place is a fishing village, you can be sure that any seafood dish that you order is certainly fresh; “The Catch Of The Day”. There is no need to dress up for any of the restaurants and remember that tips are very much appreciated.
If you happen to travel to Cancun, I will strongly recommend you to come to Puerto Morelos. I know you won’t regret it at all. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful and relaxing time in this, one of the oldest port in the Mexican Mayan Riviera.
